With a tightly coordinated network of plants in high-cost end markets and low-cost manufacturing centers, multinationals can achieve new economies of. Economies of scale are defined as the cost advantages that an organization can achieve by expanding its production in the long run.

In other words, these are the advantages of large scale production of the organization. The cost advantages are achieved in the form of lower average costs per unit. It is a long term concept. Diseconomies of Large Scale Production: The economies of scale cannot continue indefinitely.

A time comes in the life of a firm or an industry when further expansion leads to diseconomies in place of economies. Internal and external diseconomies are, in fact, the limits to large scale production which are discussed below.
